ARMENIA

Earlier Armenia stamps are hard to identify because the name of the country was not printed on them. Some of them can be recognized with a sickle or star printed on them. Other with letters and surcharges. Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia made up the Transcaucasian Federation of the Soviet Republics. Armenia began to use the stamps of Transcaucasian Federation Republics in 1923. In 1991 the Soviet Union brokeup and Armenia issued its own stamps and joined with 10 other Soviet Republics to form the Commonwealth of Independent states.
