Tasmania originally named Van Diemen's Land was an independent British Crown Colony. They united with five British colonies in 1901 to form the Commonwealth of Australia. Tasmania issued its own stamps until 1913. Then all six British colonies began to issue Australia stamps. Some examples of Tasmania stamps are as follows:
