Bangladesh was formerly East Pakistan. In 1971 it gain its independence form Pakistan and began to issue it own stamps in 1971. Stamps from Pakistan were handstamp and used for postage locally between the years of 1971 and 1973. Nearly all of Bangladesh stamps issued from 1971 have the country name printed in english on them.
