BURKINA FASO
(formerly Upper Volta)

Burkina Faso was formerly named Upper Volta. It was a french colony that used stamps from Upper Senegal and Niger with an overprint until 1930. It then began to use the Colonial Exposition Issue from France until 1933. When It was divided up between French Sudan, Ivory Coast, and Niger Territory. In 1958 Upper Volta gained its independence and was proclaimed the Republic of Upper Volta. It used this name until 1984. When it decided to change its name to Burkina Faso.
