The alliance between the communists and the nationalist broke apart after defeating Japan in 1946. Many different types of stamps were being issued in different parts of China until 1950. In 1949 the communist won the battle for mainland China and the same type of stamps began to be issued for the whole country. The nationalist fled to Taiwan which is also called the Republic of China. Some examples of People's Republic Of China stamps is as follows:
