Christmas Island was part of Singapore until 1958 when Australia took over. Christmas Island began to issue Australia stamps with an overprint for postage in the same year. In 1963 Christmas Island began to issue their own stamps with the Island name inscribed on them. Some examples of Christmas Island stamps is as follows:
