DAHOMEY

Dahomey became a part of France in 1894 and was administrated by French West Africa. Dahomey issued its own stamps until 1945 when French West Africa stamps replaced Dahomey stamps. In 1958 Dahomey gained its independence and began to issue its own stamps again. The Republic of Dahomey decided to change its name to the People's Republic of Benin in 1975, since Dahomey and Benin were two territories joined together in the country early development.
