French West Africa was created from a number of French Colonies. The French colonies united were Senegal, French Guinea, Ivory Coast, Dahomey, French Sudan, Mauritania, Niger and Upper Volta. In 1958 these colonies broke up and became republics. Each republic created used the stamps of French West Africa until they could issue their own stamps.
