GERMAN EAST AFRICA

German East Africa was a German colony and issued German stamps with an overprint until they could issue their own. At the end of WW1 German East Africa was occupied and owned by the British. Stamps of the Nyasaland Protectorate, East Africa and Uganda were overprinted and used for postage. The British gave part of German East Africa which included Ruanda and Urundi (Belgian East Africa) to the Belgians. The Belgians issued stamps from the Belgian Congo with an overprint for postage.
