GERMAN NEW GUINEA

German New Guinea was a German Protectorate and issued German stamps with an overprint for postage until they could issue their own. In 1920 they became a territory of Australia and ceased to issue stamps. During WW1 the name German New Guinea was changed to New Britain. And later changed back to New Guinea. An example of a German New Guinea overprint and stamp is as follows:

Deutsch-Neu-Guinea
(Overprinted on stamps of Germany.)
DEUTSCH-NEU-GUINEA
Or
DEUTSCH-NEUGUINEA
