HATAY

Hatay formerly named Alexandretta was renamed Hatay when it was annex to the Turkish Republic in 1939. Hatay used stamps of Turkey with an overprint until it began to issue its own. When it was annex to the Turkish Republic in 1939, stamps of Turkish Republic replaced those of Hatay. An example of a Hatay stamp and overprints is as follows:

HATAY DEVLETI
(Overprinted on stamps of Turkey.)
HATAY DEVLETI
T. C. ilhak tarih 30-6-1939
(Overprinted on stamp of Hatay.)
(The above overprint means "Date of annexation to the Turkish Republic June 30, 1939")
