Montserrat was a part of the Leeward Islands colony until 1956 when it became its own colony. It issued its first stamp in 1876 and stopped issueing stamps in 1890. Montserrat started to issue stamps again in 1903. Stamps of Leeward Islands and stamps of Montserrat were both used between the years of 1903 and 1956.
