Nevis was a part of Leeward Islands colony and issued its first stamp in 1861. Nevis stamps were replaced by those of Leeward islands in 1890. In 1903 the stamps of St. Kitts-Nevis and the stamps of Leeward Islands were used for postage in Nevis. In 1956 the stamps of St Kitts-Nevis continue to be used for postage while the stamps of Leeward Islands were no longer used for postage. Nevis began to issue its own stamps again in 1980.
