Northern Rhodesia was a British protectorate that issued its first stamp in 1925. It joined with Nyasaland and Southern Rhodesia to create the Federation of Rhodesia in 1953. It used the Federation of Rhodesia stamps until 1963 when it started to issue its own stamps again. The Federation of Rhodesia broke apart in 1964 and Northern Rhodesia became the independent republic of Zambia. Stamps of Zambia replaced the stamps of Northern Rhodesia in 1964.
