Penrhyn Island first used the stamps of New Zealand with a overprint for postage. The first New Zealand stamp issued with a overprint was in 1902. In 1920 Penrhyn Island began to issue stamps inscribed Penrhyn. It issued its own stamps until 1932 when the stamps of Cook Islands replaced the stamps of Penrhyn Island.
