POLAND

Poland was a part of the Russian empire and in 1860 issued its first stamp. In 1865 the stamps of Russia replaced the stamps of Poland. Germany invaded and occupied Poland during WWI (1915-1917) and WWII (1939-1944). During both occupation the stamps of Poland and Germany with an overprint were used for postage in Poland. After WWI (1918) Poland gained its independence and began to issue its own stamps again until WWII (1939), when Germany invaded again. After WWII (1944) Poland began to issue its own stamps again.
