Senegal was a French colony that became a part of French West Africa in 1943. Stamps of French West Africa were used for postage until 1958 when Senegal joined with the Sudanese Republic to form the Mali Federation. Stamps of the Mali Federation were used for postage until 1960 when it broke up. After the Mali Federation break up, Senegal began to issue its own stamp again.
