TANGANYIKA

Tanganyika was a part of German East Africa until it was mandated to Great Britain. In 1935 stamps of the mandate were replaced by those used jointly by Kenya, Uganda and Tanganyika. In 1961 Tanganyika became independent and in 1964 it joined with Zanzibar to form the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar. It was later renamed Tanzania.
