Zanzibar was a part of Great Britain until 1963 when it became an independent. Before 1895 the stamps of India with no overprint were used for postage. In 1964 it joined with Tanganyika and was renamed the "United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar." Zanzibar issued its first stamp in 1895. Some examples of a Zanzibar stamps is as follows:
