TYPES OF THE 2c WASHINGTON DESIGN DISTRIBUTED 1912 - 1920

Type I
The ribbon above the 2 on both the left and right sides has a shading line. On the left ribbon it is on the first curve and on the right ribbon it is on the 2nd curve. Button at the base of the neck has a very faint outline. At the base of the neck the curvey short lines running from the button to the throat are also very faint. The lines in front of the ear are separated
Type Ia
Is not shown but is similar to Type I except that all of the lines are stronger. Lines of the button are also heavy.
Type II
The ribbons above the 2 are shaded as in type I. The button at the base of the neck is heavy, and the curvey lines running from the left of the button to the front of the neck are also heavy with a top border line.The shaded lines in front of the of the ear are joined and end in a curve running to the ear.
Type III
Is like type II except there are double shaded marks on on both right and left ribbon.
Type IV
The line running on top of the curvey lines at the base of the neck to the left of the button are gone. Also the button has one symbol and two letters inside. The first letter is a backward D and the next two are "ID"
Type V
The button at the base of the neck has five vertical lines inside it. There is a line of color in the left "2" that is very thin and could be broken. There may or may not be shaded areas on the nose depending on the printing process.
Type Va
Is the same as type 5 except that the shaded dots on the nose are different. The third row of dots from the bottom have four dots instead of six. These dots on the nose are only present on certain printing processes.
Type VI
Is the same as type V except that the line of color in the left "2" is very heavy. This only occurs with some printing processes.
Type VII
The line of color on the left "2" is heavier and not broken as in type V or Va. There are three rows of vertical dots in the shaded area above the lip instead of two, and the hair line has be increased with additional dots. This only occurs with some printing processes.
